And for another take on "Southern Style", the Iron Hen Cafe also offers a sides plate option. Make three or four selections from the sides menu and get ready to enjoy a do-it-yourself vegetable dinner. On a recent trip, I chose the small hen house salad, the collard green egg roll, red cabbage walnut and horseradish slaw, and grilled corn on the cob with parmesan. Delicious!
But while I'm talking about the sides, I recently had a bad case of food envy when a friend got the okra and I decided at the last minute not to get it. When I saw theirs, I knew that I would have to have my very own on my next visit and I did! I got it, and it tasted like no okra I'd ever had. It's outstanding!!

Decisions! Decisions! Decisions!
I love good food. Fresh ingredients. Locally grown. Hand-cut. These are all words on the menu at the Iron Hen Cafe that appeal to me. Whether it's for a lovely Sunday brunch or a just rollin' out of the bed lunch, the Iron Hen is an excellent choice. Omelets, pancakes, meat and potatoes, or vegetarian fare... there are plenty of options for the first meal of the day!
The lunch menu is packed with sandwiches and salads that will challenge your decision-making skills. So many! And they all sound so good! On my most recent trip, I chose the pulled bbq pork sandwich. Served on kaiser roll with red cabbage walnut and horseradish slaw with a side of hand-cut sweet potato chips, it was spectacular!
The sandwiches, salads, and a whole host of entrees are offered on the dinner menu as well. There are daily specials and outdoor seating is available. This place is delicious. Located at 908 Cridland Rd. and overlooking Latham Park, the location is convenient to downtown or easy to access from anywhere in town via Wendover Avenue.
